|

Carrie Burns Brown |
Carrie Burns Brown, N.W.S., has studied art
extensively and has painted, exhibited and conducted
classes for forty years. She has taught at
Springmaid Beach since 1985. Carrie’s innovative
ways have prompted inclusion of her work in
publications; and she presently has a DVD,
Watermedia Collage.
The first two days of the workshop will focus on
color and design using fluid acrylic paint as a
multi-layered, transparent opaque water medium which
can be applied to canvas or paper. Emphasis will

C:
Watercolor Free and Easy - Eric Wiegardt |
|

Eric Wiegardt |
Eric Wiegardt, A.W.S., N.W.S., is a nationally
recognized judge, juror, and award winner who has left
an indelible mark on the American art scene with more
than 20 years of professional painting and teaching
experience. He is the author of Watercolor Free & Easy
and is featured in many books along with magazine
articles in Watercolor Magazine, International Artist,
Watercolor Magic, and cover artist for The Artist’s
Magazine. Eric is a graduate of the American Academy of
Art in Chicago.
This is a workshop for those who wish to loosen up in
watercolor and/or acrylic. Painting techniques and
philosophy of design will be applicable in both mediums
to encourage bold, loose paintings. Eric believes most
painting problems are the violation of an elementary
painting principle. Lectures will be easily understood
and helpful to all levels of expertise. There will be
ample time for students to try the concepts presented.
The instructor will do a completed painting
demonstration daily. Subject matter may include
landscapes, marinescapes, florals, streetscapes,
interiors, and still life. Weather permitting; some
plein-air painting may be incorporated.

discuss watercolor concepts and issues, particularly
artistic assessment, analysis and traditions. The
session will try to encourage an interchange between
participants so that their collective understandings can
be shared, questioned and discussed. Topics may include,
“Color-formed space," “The limits of watercolor," “The
technical display," “So what’s new?," and “Who is my
audience?” Discussion will be accompanied with handouts.

original, bold and entertaining workshop designed to
teach you how to make better paintings by mastering
collage techniques emphasizing texture, responding to
surface developments and rescuing unsuccessful

new freedom of expression, learn to respond to surfaces
and develop an alternative method of working with
watercolor.
In Studio Landscape Painting, his workshop emphasizes
content: how to put meaning into your paintings and
express yourself in your work. The goal of this workshop
is to help you achieve a depth of personal expression in
your paintings. Design will be treated as a component of
content, but the core of the workshop will involve

your work.

I: Finding Your
Voice in Paint - Skip Lawrence |
|

Skip Lawrence |
William B. (Skip) Lawrence, received a B.F.A.
degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art
and M.A. degree from Towson University. His book,
Painting Light and Shadow in Watercolor, was
published in 1994. Skip is editor-and-chief of The
Palette Magazine.
After you have explored all the “how too’s” of
painting, you are still stuck with the “why”?
Without a clear declaration of what one wants to say
in one’s painting, it can become just an imitation
of someone else’s work. Skip challenges painters to
rewrite the rules their way, to consider their
choices and shake up their status quo. Through
lecture, demonstration and critique, Skip guides
each painter to refine their intention and express
it in new and honest ways. No one else but you can
say what you want to say in paint—why settle for
less? With insight, warmth and humor, Skip brings
out the best in each painter.
